Week 3 (2/22/2021) Retrospectives
Today we have learned that the user research is one of the most important parts in ux design. Before thinking about any solutions to a problem, as ux designers we have to identify the problem itself first. We need to spend a lot of time and effort in user research in order to understand whether the problem we are initially trying to solve is a real problem, or is there any more underneath layers of that problem. Asking 5 whys is a really effective way to find the root cause of one problem. And with the information we have gained from the research, we can decide if we want to solve our initial problem or the root cause.
It is really important to remember that we are not the users - we are helping the users to solve their problems and that is why we need to do research to learn and understand our users’ motives and expectations. Continuous research can help us save a lot of time and money, and avoid misunderstandings. There are different methods and types of research that we can use for our design process, which includes quantitative and qualitative research (“how many” & “why”), behavioral and attitudinal research (“what do they do” & “what do they say”), and generative and evaluative research (“think in large context” & “test your solutions”). There are three main things we need to discover from our research: internal factors, goals and tasks, and external factors.
