Weekly Retrospective
I have no experience in terms of UX design prior to this class. Although I am familiar with the term User Experience and our life nowadays are heavily dependent on User Experience design, I have never systematically learned how the design process works. In today’s first UX class with Regine, we first practiced on Affinity Map which allowed us to gather different thoughts, ideas, opinions and resources together as the first step into designing user experience. I also understood that human experience and human engagement are two most important factors in UX design. And speaking of designing for “human”, designers often only make their products available for able-bodied users and forget about people with disabilities. It is our responsibility to consider accessibility at any time and our most important mission to include every single human when we are designing user experiences.
After today’s class, I think the biggest challenge I am facing right now is that I don’t really know how to design for users. I was studying fashion design in my undergraduate and most of time I tended to ignore what the clients really wanted to wear because I wanted to fully explore my creativity and go crazy about my designs. Therefore most of the garments I created were too abstract or avant-garde (I would say) that normally they are not “wearable” at all in daily life. In that case, I completely ignored what the clients wanted and did not consider what the fashion industry/market needed as well. Now I am in my first year at ITP studying interactive design. In this UX class, I really want to learn how to be a good UX designer who is capable of making great experiences for his users. I want to truly understand the meaning of User Experience. And I want to practice more on dealing with the relationships between designers and their clients, and making our life better with well designed products.
